New "Blue Book" published and available free to public

November 30, 2005 - Secretary of State Eric Clark today announced the publication of the 2004-2008 Mississippi Official and Statistical Register, commonly known as the "Blue Book."

"The 'Blue Book' is the standard reference book on state government," Clark said. "This new edition aims to make government more accessible to our citizens."

The complete "Blue Book" is available on the Secretary of State's website: www.sos.state.ms.us. A fully interactive edition with updates will be posted to the website in the spring. A CD/ROM edition will also be published.

The volume is published every four years following the municipal elections. 25,000 copies are printed. It contains complete information on the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of state government, all state agencies, and election results, as well as information on federal, county, and municipal government and the media.

The theme of this edition is "Mississippi History." The volume contains brief essays by notable Mississippians including former Governor William Winter, Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Gandy, Speaker Pro Tem Robert Clark, and historian David Sansing, among others.

Single copies of the "Blue Book" are available free of charge to individuals. Individuals wishing to pick up a copy may do so at the Secretary of State's 700 North Street building from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. To order a copy, call 601-359-6344 or e-mail publications@sos.state.ms.us

Individuals, officials, and government agencies who have already placed orders for the "Blue Book" should be receiving their copies through the mail in 2-3 weeks.
