MCMILLIAN RECEIVES MISSISSIPPI BUSINESS JOURNAL HONOR

Marco W. McMillian, associate director for Development at Jackson State University, was honored at the Mississippi Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at the Mississippi Trade Mart in Jackson, Miss.

McMillian, 26, and a 2002 magna cum laude graduate of the W.E.B. DuBois Honors College at Jackson State University (JSU), was recognized for his community service efforts, commitment to higher education, and fund-raising abilities.

As the senior development officer for JSU, McMillian is responsible for managing the fund-raising operations and activities of the university. Since his appointment as Associate Director for Development in November 2004, the university has secured more than $16 million.

The Clarksdale native is currently embarking on a $50 million fund-raiser, “The Campaign for Jackson State,” to provide additional student financial assistance, attract and retain quality faculty, and enhance program support, therefore empowering the university through the 21st century and beyond.

The Mississippi Business Journal’s annual event, now in its 13th year, highlights young leaders for their achievement in both their communities and the business world.
