Dowdy: Governor should focus on more pressing issues
JACKSON (Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006) – Mississippi Democratic Party Chairman Wayne Dowdy issued the following statement in response to Republican Gov. Haley Barbour’s news conference today touting the success of tort reform.
“Why the sudden attention on tort reform?” Dowdy said. “We need to focus on more pressing needs in Mississippi such as speeding our state’s recovery from Hurricane Katrina – the nation’s biggest natural disaster.
“Hundreds of people remain homeless on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, many people are still living in FEMA trailers and business after business has been washed away. Yet, here is our governor traveling across the state touting tort reform.
“We have more serious needs and issues facing our state. That’s where our attention we should be focused.”
