Mayor Plans to Run for Seat in Congress
Another candidtate has thrown their hat in the ring, in the race for the second congressional district.
This afternoon Tchula Mayor Yvonne Brown announced she is running for congress.
The Republican Mayor of four years says she has learned a lot about politics during her time in office, and feels she can help more people by representing them in Washington.
Brown says housing, education and employment for delta residents, will be her top priorities if elected.
Yvonne Brown says, "what i hope to bring to the table are solutions not to continue to harbor on the disparities we have a wonderful workforce. We need to focus on work force development, training. I currently serve on the state workforce investment board and so that is dear and near to my heart. About how we need to retrain and rethink how we train our people."
Incumbent Democrat Congressman Bennie Thompson, and Representative Chuck Espy are also running for the seat.
At this time, Brown does not face a Republican challenger in the June primary.
