Jackson City Council honors Tchula Native
The Jackson City Council honored Barron Banks, Class of 1969, for outstanding service to JSU and the city of Jackson.
In two years as an Alumni Chapter Development Specialist, Banks has helped start at total of 13 alumni chapters in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Indiana, Florida and Minnesota. Jackson City Council President Marshand K. Crisler, ’98, recently selected Banks to join the city’s Policy and Planning Committee. The group is responsible for developing plans for attracting businesses, identifying existing policies which may hinder development, and propose policies to enhance business development.
The Tchula, Miss. native currently serves as pastor of the Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bolton. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education and social studies from Jackson State University in 1969 and a master of divinity degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1976.
Banks is married to Patricia Bolden Banks. They have three children, Lamarcus, Aaron, and Joseph.
